EDGECAM Joins MTC
EDGECAM has become the latest member of the pioneering Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry, working with machine tool and cutting experts, developing complete shop floor solutions for manufacturers.MTC engineers were impressed by EDGECAM’s ease of use and ability to create simple three-axis tool-paths through to complex five-axis milling programs and controlling lathes.
EDGECAM strategic partnership manager Wesley Tonks said the MTC’s clients represented a diverse range of companies across several sectors including aerospace, automotive, transport, health, ICT, robotics, food production, defence and marine.
“The MTC already has 10 examples of EDGECAM software to drive its machines, and as they specialise in a range of manufacturing processes that are particularly useful to the high value manufacturing sector, EDGECAM is a natural choice for intelligent tool-path generation, supporting our groundbreaking advanced manufacturing and engineering research.
MTC chief executive Dr Clive Hickman said he was delighted to welcome Edgcam to the MTC community.
“Here at the MTC we have created an unparalleled environment to develop and demonstrate new technologies on an industrial scale, bringing together the UK’s leading engineers, industry professionals and academics. This allows our clients to develop new manufacturing processes in an industrial setting without the constraints of a commercial production environment. This supports innovation and EDGECAM is a natural fit with our culture and operations,” he said.
The MTC aims to provide a competitive environment to bridge the gap between university-based research and the development of innovative manufacturing solutions, in line with the Government’s manufacturing strategy. The MTC is part the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, supported by the Technology Strategy Board.
The growth of the Manufacturing Technology Centre has far exceeded expectations, achieving many of its targets five years ahead of schedule.
