Waveform Machining Strategy has been enhanced with ‘Chip Prevention’ control. Under certain conditions, a toolpath can generate a thin island of material (chip), which, as it gets thinner can cause machining stresses, and potentially break the tool. This usually forces the user to reduce feed and %Stepover. ‘Chip Prevention’ alters the toolpath pattern, by machining across the island of material, removing the possibility of machining stresses, and allowing users to enhance feed and %Stepover.

5 Axis Simultaneous Cycle and Barrel Cutters | EDGECAM 2020.0

EDGECAM 2020.0 introduces a specific ‘Tilt’ control strategy within the Advanced 5-Axis Simultaneous Cycle in order to better support the new ‘Barrel Cutter’ tool type.
Users are no longer restricted to using a small %stepover value when finishing 5-axis components as the Barrel Cutter geometry allows for a much larger setting. The increase in %stepover reduces cycle time and promotes a better surface finish.
